Scheduled - Microsoft Exchange Online will disable legacy tokens starting June 2025, with full retirement by October 2025. Organizations must migrate to NAA (nested app authentication) and Entra ID tokens to ensure Outlook add-ins continue functioning. Microsoft recommends a scream test -- temporarily disable legacy Exchange Online tokens to identify any Outlook add-ins that may break soon. This will help us discover issues before the June 2025 cutoff. We will also run tests to identify affected add-ins and check with publishers for updates.

IAM - Post-Census PeopleSoft to IAM Bulk Load May 19, 2025 08:00 - May 20, 2025 17:00 EDT

Push all student records from Campus Solutions to Directory-Manager after Census activities are complete.  This happens for Fall, Spring, Summer I and Summer II semesters.  We will release 5000 updates per hour.  After this data push, all privacy flags should be cleared for first-time students who have not chosen FERPA privacy. During this data load, updates to LDAP and AD may be slower than usual.

The Communicator and UC-One Connect soft client applications are being replaced by a new software called PING. Communicator licenses will be transferred to the new PING application in a phased rollout this spring.

Need to know:

The Communicator and UC-One Connect soft client applications are no longer supported by the vendor and will be replaced by a new software called PING.

Communicator clients will not be uninstalled automatically and should be manually removed from your devices.

This change will not impact voicemail.

The phased transition to replace Premium Communicator (Desktop) and UC-One connect (mobile) clients begins February 7, 2025.

This 1st transition will impact Information Technology Services (ITS). Only phone lines that currently subscribe to Communicator will be impacted.

ITS Web Proxy Server Decommission Jul 30, 2025 10:00-11:00 EDT

The web proxy service operating at 172.22.255.71 (webproxy.net.unc.edu) will be decommissioned.  Clients utilizing the proxy will need to migrate to a new preferred NAT architecture before this change time to avoid service interruption.

To migrate to NAT, client device owners or administrators need to engage ITS Security with a service request to initiate the NAT setup process for their specific servers and VLANs.

This proxy service was established to support patching of campus servers without Internet access in 2019 and grew to support specific security and SSO products over time.  Work between ITS Networking and ITS Security has shown the campus firewalls can provide the same functionality through NAT and firewall policy.  This simplifies client configurations and adds functionality to support more than the current standard HTTP/HTTPS protocols.
