Currently, we have been accommodating to very old operating systems by allowing a very old VPN agent to be accepted on our campus VPN. However, due to security concerns, we have decided to make some changes. On August 3rd, we will be pushing an update that will require a minimum agent installation version of AnyConnect v4.10.06079 from 4.4.02034 for the VPN.

As a result, the VPN will only support Windows version 8 and above, as well as macOS version 10.14 and above. We understand that this may impact some users who have outdated operating systems or VPN agents. The number of clients orphaned because of non-supported operating systems will be minimal. However, many clients will need to have their agents updated to a newer version.

To minimize disruption, Cisco has designed the update process to occur relatively seamlessly upon a new connection request after the changeover date. This means that most users should experience little to no interruption in VPN access. Nonetheless, we strongly encourage users to upgrade their AnyConnect agent to the latest version in advance of the change. You can download the latest version of the client from shareware.unc.edu.
